Yangxiu DZW Series Electric Actuator Commissioning: Steps and 11 Common Fault Fixes

source:    date:2026-10-04

Commissioning a Yangxiu DZW series multi-turn electric actuator (AC380V three-phase three-wire supply, 4-20mA position output, IP55, -20 to 60 °C ambient, 0.030-15 kW output) runs along two tracks: torque mechanisms are adjusted "closing first, from small to large" until the valve seats tightly, and travel mechanisms are set by closing the valve by hand, disengaging the counter gear, and turning the cam until it trips the micro-switch. On the fault side, phase loss is the most common — with a built-in quick test: if the "power phase loss" alarm appears immediately after a local start command it is a static phase loss; if it appears 1-2 seconds later it is a dynamic phase loss, and the causes and remedies of the two differ completely. This article compiles the DZW commissioning steps and 11 common faults with causes and fixes.

1. DZW main technical parameters

ItemSpecification
Power supplyAC380V, 50Hz, three-phase three-wire
Position signal4-20mA output
Ingress protectionIP55
Ambient temperature-20 to 60 °C
Output power0.030-15 kW

2. How do LOCAL and REMOTE work?

After every power-up the actuator is in REMOTE. Press the LOCAL key to switch: the green remote LED goes out, the red local LED lights, and the remote OPEN/STOP/CLOSE keys become inoperative — only the local panel keys work. Before commissioning: verify reliable earthing, and on a newly installed actuator check motor phase sequence and control wiring before the first electric stroke to prevent runaway.

3. How is the torque mechanism adjusted?

  • Adjust the closing torque first;
  • Following the product's torque characteristic curve, start from a small torque value and increase gradually until the valve seats tightly;
  • The opening-direction torque should generally be larger than the closing torque;
  • All of the above is done unloaded, without medium pressure; re-verify under real pressure and temperature — if the valve will not seat, increase the torque. The criterion is "closes tight, opens free".

4. How is the travel mechanism adjusted?

  • ① Close the valve fully by hand;
  • ② Disengage the travel mechanism: push the disengaging rod in with a screwdriver and turn it 90°, so the drive pinion separates from the counter units gear set;
  • ③ Turn the "close" adjustment shaft with the screwdriver in the arrow direction until the cam presses the spring plate and the micro-switch trips — the closing travel is roughly set;
  • ④ Release the rod so the drive gear re-meshes with both unit gears; rock the adjustment shaft slightly left/right to ensure full mesh;
  • ⑤ Opening direction: move the valve by hand to the required open position, disengage again, turn the "open" adjustment shaft until the cam trips the micro-switch, then re-mesh. Repeat as needed.

5. Static vs dynamic phase loss — how to tell them apart

Quick test: in LOCAL, turn the (black) control knob toward open or close — if the "power phase loss" alarm appears immediately, it is static phase loss; if it appears 1-2 seconds later, it is dynamic phase loss.

TypeProbable causeRemedy
Static (alarms immediately)One phase of the three-phase supply missingMeasure voltage at the supply terminals with a tester/multimeter; if abnormal, check the user's distribution system and line
Control-board signal connector unreliableRe-seat or replace the signal cable
Power-board component damagedReplace power board with same model
Dynamic (alarms after 1-2s)Control-board signal connector unreliableRe-seat or replace the signal cable
AC contactor damagedReplace contactor with same model
Motor damagedReplace motor with same model
Power-board component damagedReplace power board with same model

The logic is intuitive: a static phase loss exists before starting, so it alarms at once; a dynamic phase loss appears only after the contactor pulls in and the motor is energized, so the alarm lags 1-2 seconds — hence the focus shifts to the contactor and motor.

6. Other common faults

SymptomProbable causeRemedy
Motor races (no output)Manual/electric changeover locked, motor spinning freeReset with the setter; turn the handwheel, then run electrically so it engages and runs continuously; repeat if needed, otherwise contact the factory
Motor contactor damaged or main-board plug looseReplace the contactor or re-seat the main-board plug
Power lossUser's supply fuse blownCheck and fix the distribution system
Surge-proof fuse on power board blownReplace with same model
Power transformer damagedReplace with same model
Signal connector unreliableRe-seat or replace the cable
Motor overheatedProlonged continuous running exceeded 130 °C; thermostat opened for protectionPause operation, resume after the motor cools
Closing over-torqueClosing over-torque protection set too lowIncrease the closing torque value with the setter; run 2-3 full strokes locally without the alarm
Actuator sizing mismatched to site conditionsReplace with a correctly sized model
External obstruction (e.g. jammed valve)Remove the external obstruction
Opening over-torqueSame class as closing over-torqueSame remedies as above
Position over-range / under-rangePosition settings lostReset with the setter and re-set the upper/lower limits
Remote digital control inoperativeMode knob not correctly at REMOTEAlign the "REMOTE" marking with the pointed index beside the knob
Knob board component damagedReplace the knob board
Remote control wiring incorrect or unreliableCheck wiring, ensure correct and tight
Abnormal display at power-onAbnormal power-on reseta. Reset with the setter; b. Disconnect power, remove the backup battery, wait 15-20 minutes, re-power (repeat a few times), refit the battery once normal; c. Replace main board with same model
Oil plug leakingOil-plug screw looseTighten the plug and wipe off the oil

Summary

  • Commissioning order: torque before travel; torque is "closing first, small to large, closes tight / opens free"; travel is "hand-close → disengage gear → turn cam until micro-switch trips → re-mesh";
  • One phase-loss trick: alarm immediately after a local start = static (check supply and power board); alarm 1-2 seconds later = dynamic (focus on the contactor and motor);
  • Two numbers: the motor thermostat trips at 130 °C; after a torque adjustment, pass 2-3 full strokes without the alarm.
