SIPOS 5/7 Series Electric Actuators: ECOTRON & PROFITRON Wiring and Commissioning
SIPOS electric actuators come in two classes: ECOTRON (economy, contactor-controlled, fixed speed) and PROFITRON (professional, VFD-controlled, variable speed with torque curves). The SIPOS 7 series is the successor to series 5, sharing the same architecture and operating philosophy. This article covers terminal wiring for both classes, commissioning procedures and common fault remedies. ECOTRON (Economy) Terminal Wiring
| Terminal | Function | Description |
| U1、V1、W1、PE | Three-phase supply + earth | 380V three-phase input (phase order irrelevant) |
| X3.1-3、X3.1-6 | Stop command | Valve stop signal |
| X3.1-3、X3.1-4 | Close command | Remote close signal |
| X3.1-3、X3.1-5 | Open command | Remote open signal |
| X3.2-1、X3.2-2 | Fully-open feedback | Open feedback signal |
| X3.2-5、X3.2-6 | Fully-closed feedback | Closed feedback signal |
| X3.2-11、X3.2-12 | Fault signal | Fault feedback signal |
Wiring note: terminals 18 and 19 must be jumpered.
PROFITRON (Professional) Terminal Wiring (with relay board)
| Terminal | Function | Description |
| U1、V1、W1、PE | Three-phase supply + earth | 380V three-phase input (phase order irrelevant) |
| X3.2-14(+) | Command input + | Control command positive |
| X3.2-15(-) | Command input - | Control command negative |
| X3.1-1、X3.1-2 | Position feedback | 4–20 mA position feedback (+/-) |
| X3.2-13、X3.2-14 | Remote control | Remote signal |
Wiring note: position feedback needs no DCS card power supply.
ECOTRON vs PROFITRON
- Economy: contactor control, fixed speed. Professional: VFD control, adjustable speed
- Economy: mechanical torque switch. Professional: electronic torque detection with torque curves
- Economy: commissioned with buttons and potentiometers. Professional: menu-driven
ECOTRON (SIPOS 5) Commissioning
Step 1: Preparation
- Switch the actuator to local and open the control-unit cover and signal-gear-unit cover
Step 2: Start commissioning
- Set S8 to ON to begin; turn the signal gear to the commissioning position
Step 3: Open the valve and set the open limit
- Press the open button (or handwheel to fully open) and observe the rotation direction of the white signal gear (centre wheel E)
- Turn the gear carefully in the direction it rotated while opening until the H2 red lamp goes out; set S7 to ON then OFF — the open position is set
Step 4: Set the close limit
- Press the close button (or handwheel to fully closed) and observe the white signal gear rotation angle (normal: more than 90°, less than 270°); set S7 to ON then OFF — the close position is set
Step 5: Finish
- Set S8 to OFF; when confirmed the H1 green lamp stays lit
PROFITRON (SIPOS 5) Commissioning
Switch to local
- Press the LOCAL/REMOTE button on the control panel to switch to LOCAL
Enter the commissioning menu and password
- Press ENTER to enter the "Sprache lang." language menu
- Press ↓ until "COMMISSIONING" appears; press ENTER to enter the commissioning menu
- The display shows "0000"; the password is "9044": cursor on digit 1 — press ↓ for "9", confirm; digit 2 — confirm; digit 3 — press ↑ for "4", confirm; digit 4 — press ↑ for "4", confirm
Set the open limit
- Press ↓ until "endpost. adjust" appears; "start with pos. open" — press ENTER
- "move to op.pos" / "press E-button": press open to run the valve toward open, watching the white gear direction; stop at fully open
- After 2 s press ENTER; a number appears — turn it to zero following the gear rotation direction and press ENTER
Set the close limit
- "move to cl.pos": press ↓ to close, stop at fully closed and observe the white gear angle (proper range 120°–300°); press ENTER — "adjustment OK!" appears
Finish
- Press local/remote; the display first line shows "remote"
Common Faults and Remedies
| Fault code/symptom | Meaning | Remedy |
| ESD alarm | Emergency shutdown triggered | Check ESD source, clear the fault, reset |
| Phase-loss alarm | Three-phase supply loss | Check supply lines and fuses |
| Torque exceeded | Valve sticking or packing too tight | Check valve mechanically; adjust torque setting |
| Travel exceeded | End positions wrongly set | Readjust end positions |
| VFD fault | Overcurrent/overvoltage/overheat (professional) | Check load; improve cooling; replace VFD if necessary |
SIPOS 7 Series Note
SIPOS 7 (SEVEN ECOTRON/PROFITRON) inherits the series 5 VFD architecture and commissioning philosophy, upgrading the HMI, diagnostics and fieldbus communication — adding a Web server, richer condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Terminal wiring is essentially identical to series 5; commissioning uses a graphical interface.
